Behind the Curiosity

I’ve always been that kid—the one asking a million questions a day. They say kids ask about 300 questions daily, but I’m pretty sure I shattered that record. My parents used to joke that I needed a question quota, but luckily we had encyclopedias (the pre-internet Google), and I practically lived in libraries. If there was something to learn, I had to know it.
Science was my first love, followed closely by engineering. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to dive into so many cool careers—from developing software and designing engines to solving water challenges, testifying as an expert witness, and running a research program at a national lab. I’ve even worked in museums! As a docent at the Museum of Natural History in Ann Arbor, I got to share my love of science with visitors, and at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, I designed a database for their fossil collection, making it easier for scientists to collaborate.
I’ve also been a school teacher, a homeschool mom, and even a fitness coach (fun fact: I used science to plan my training for an Ironman triathlon!). Whether I’m teaching kids, tackling big questions, or paddling the open waters, I believe that curiosity and perseverance can take you anywhere.
When I’m not nerding out over experiments or exploring big ideas, you can probably find me hiking, camping, or planning my next travel adventure. I’ve always loved being active, and science is even more fun when you can see it in action outdoors.
Whether you’re here because you love science, want to learn something new, or just enjoy asking, “Why?”—you’re in the right place. Let’s chase our curiosity together and see where it takes us!
